For Students

STEAM

We are very passionate about STEAM here at Murhur N.S. We are involved in a Creative Cluster with three other schools for the 2nd year. Our aim is to draw out the “A” (STE”A”M), the creative arts, in all of our children and exposing them to future careers like a stage manager or lights and sound technicians and curators.

We do this through the use of Lego League Masterpiece lessons and various other activities and excursions. Our classes love this time of the week where children are encouraged to share their ideas and creativities in a safe, welcoming environment.

This week we started our 8th lesson “Visual Effects” and discussed the use of a green screen in movies and theatres.

3D Printing

Murhur NS is a 3D Printing School. We are very fortunate to have our own printer thanks to our neighbours here in Moyvane, Mulvihill Motors.

In the past year the children in the Senior Class have won ‘Best Overall 3D Printing School’ at the Taiscéalaí 3D Printing Awards at IMR in Mullingar as well as second place in the ‘Best Overall Learning Journey’ category in the All-Ireland 3D Printing Sustainability Challenge. The children had to either use the printer to fix something that was broken and destined for the bin or design and print something to add a second life to something that already exists.
