It was another successful Active Schools Week this year with a wide variety of activities on offer. Monday started off with a visit from Rochelle from PAWS to explore all things water safety with the children. The children also put their basketball skills to the test with a session from Mrs. Quill and engaged in a mini-basketball blitz. Tuesday began with an introduction to boxing for all ages. A parent volunteered along with their family who are part of the local boxing club to come to the school and give children a taster about the skills and fitness involved in boxing. Our annual Patrick Curtin Memorial blitz began on Tuesday with each team playing a match each. Four teams went on to compete in the Semi-final which was held on Thursday. Ms. Finnegan set activities to explore different aspects of Athletics with the children including hurdles, sprints and javelin throwing. Wheelie Wednesday got off to a more ‘zen’ start with another parent volunteering and showcasing their expertise in yoga. The children got a chance to mediate, stretch and practice new yoga moves. The children also got the opportunity to hop on their bikes and other vehicles around the yard. Later in the day, the annual sports day races were ran on the school pitch. The day was finished off with a walk through the woods and a trip to the playground to enjoy the local amenities. The Active Schools committee along with other children in the senior room set up stations for the whole school to participate and enjoy in the community centre on Thursday morning. The semi-finals of the Patrick Curtin Memorial took place on Thursday afternoon with two teams progressing to the final next week. Active Schools Week was finished off on Friday with more sports day races in the community centre. A jam-packed week full of fun-filled activities for all the children to enjoy!
