Physical Activity

Keeping fit and active

Pupils from all classes engage in active breaks each day to keep their minds and bodies fit and healthy. This year we participated in the Olympic Movement Break Challenge. Each day pupils take on the Daily Mile. We are hoping to take part in the Run Across Europe Challenge next Month and reach as far as Greece!

Active School Week

We had a beautiful sunny morning to  start our ‘Active School Week’. We took a brisk walk through our new school walk-way. We stopped off at the playground for a short while. Then back to school where some children went for a swimming lesson and others were coached in the skill of hurling. Huge thanks to Ian Mc Carthy for coming in and doing a number of drills with the hurleys, sliotars and tyres.

Active in school

As part of ASF (Active School Flag) Programme every Wednesday and Friday Junior/Senior Infants have a yoga class. They practise different yoga poses from Downward Dog to Butterfly to Cobra!  At the end of the class there is meditation to ‘escape to complete relaxation’ before returning to the busy classroom.

Daily Mile

This morning we had our launch of the 2018/2019 Daily Mile!  We were delighted with the support from all our parents.  Everyone young and ‘old’ were walking…..running…..enjoying themselves.  We were thrilled to see 3 members of the Kerry Crusaders (Listowel Running Club) joining us – Rochelle O’Riordan, Don Hannon and Tommy Commane.  Tommy’s ‘pep talk’ definitely gave everyone a new lease of life.  We are looking forward to seeing new faces from our Community to walk or run each day.  Well done to Cara Stack who won the voucher from JK Sports, Listowel.  Ruby Farrell and Lauren O’Connor won a water bottle each.  Míle Buíochas to all who participated.  Remember we are fitter today than we were yesterday.
