Pupils from all classes engage in active breaks each day to keep their minds and bodies fit and healthy. This year we participated in the Olympic Movement Break Challenge. Each day pupils take on the Daily Mile. We are hoping to take part in the Run Across Europe Challenge next Month and reach as far as Greece!
Active Learning Outdoors
We make use of the nearby green areas, forest and the school field for active learning. This year we explored the local nearby green areas searching for mini-beasts and other creatures. We partner with The Local Heritage Council for these workshops.
Badminton
Children from 4th and 6th participated in a Badminton blitz as part of the Kerry Badminton Primary Schools competition. This gave children the opportunity to practice their badminton skills against other schools.
Dance
Children engaged in learning new dance routines during the year. The whole school came together to perform the dance routines on the school yard.
Wheelie Wednesday
Pupils got the opportunity to bring in their best wheels and practice a different form of fitness on bikes, scooters and go-karts.
Cross country
Pupils developed their fitness by participating in the daily mile challenges each week and also competing in the Cumann na mBunscoil competitions.
Buddy Activities
Pupils from the senior classes enjoy organising and facilitating activities for the younger classes.
Walks around the locality
Children frequently enjoy walks through the local forestry and through the village as part of their active breaks.
Yoga
Children participated in yoga activities to develop balance.
Sports Day
We had Sports Day on Monday 17th June. Lots of fun activities going on!

Active School Week
We had a beautiful sunny morning to start our ‘Active School Week’. We took a brisk walk through our new school walk-way. We stopped off at the playground for a short while. Then back to school where some children went for a swimming lesson and others were coached in the skill of hurling. Huge thanks to Ian Mc Carthy for coming in and doing a number of drills with the hurleys, sliotars and tyres.

Active in school
As part of ASF (Active School Flag) Programme every Wednesday and Friday Junior/Senior Infants have a yoga class. They practise different yoga poses from Downward Dog to Butterfly to Cobra! At the end of the class there is meditation to ‘escape to complete relaxation’ before returning to the busy classroom.
Daily Mile
This morning we had our launch of the 2018/2019 Daily Mile! We were delighted with the support from all our parents. Everyone young and ‘old’ were walking…..running…..enjoying themselves. We were thrilled to see 3 members of the Kerry Crusaders (Listowel Running Club) joining us – Rochelle O’Riordan, Don Hannon and Tommy Commane. Tommy’s ‘pep talk’ definitely gave everyone a new lease of life. We are looking forward to seeing new faces from our Community to walk or run each day. Well done to Cara Stack who won the voucher from JK Sports, Listowel. Ruby Farrell and Lauren O’Connor won a water bottle each. Míle Buíochas to all who participated. Remember we are fitter today than we were yesterday.
