Garden Centre Visit

The Junior classes went on a fieldtrip to the Mailroad Cross Garden Centre. Eamon showed them all around the centre and children got such an insight into the amount of work, care and effort it takes to grow plants, flowers and shrubs. A big thank you to Eamon and Julie for facilitating the trip!

Duathlon

Niamh Murphy from Triathlon Ireland started the pupils 2nd – 6th class on an exciting journey to  becoming duathletes.

JEP update!

Our Junior Entrepreneur Programme is well underway. After presenting their ideas to a ‘Dragon’s Den’ the hard task was left to Mrs. O’Regan and Ms. O’Flaherty to choose.  After tough deliberations a number of ideas were pooled together and all were delighted to work together to try and make a success of the chosen project. We are now down to the nitty gritty of sourcing, pricing and ordering! Many skills are being practised and children are learning a lot about the true value of money, etc.

New Student Council

Introducing our new Student Council! We cannot wait to see what initiatives the new Council has in store for us. They are now the student voice of Murhur NS and are already proving to be fantastic role models for the other pupils in our school.

STEMgineers!

Our Pringle Ringle STEM challenge proved a huge success with our 3rd & 4th class STEMgineers!  4 out of 4 groups were successful. They learned about gravity, diameter and radius and got to eat a few Pringes along the way……

Pancake Tuesday 2020

The delicious smell of pancakes being cooked wafted through the classrooms on Tuesday 25th February……

 

Grandparents Day

We celebrated our wonderful grandparents on Tuesday 18th February.  We had mass in the church with Fr. Kevin. All were invited into school afterwords for teas and treats prepared by the Parents’ Council. Grandparents visited classrooms and were entertained by the children.

Confirmation 2020

A great crowd gathered in the Church of the Assumption Moyvane on Tuesday 25th February as 5th and 6th class children were confirmed by Bishop Ray Browne. The church looked splendid, enhanced by all the beautiful Art Work on display.

JEP

Children of 5th and 6th class welcomed their Business Visitor into school recently as part of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. We are very grateful to Nikita Palmier of ‘Novelty Cakes Moyvane’ who gave her time willingly to chat to the children about her business of cake decorating.  She showed them how to create various designs and each child had a hands-on experience of creating their own cake topper!  Thank you Nikita for all the tasty treats you brought with you!

Station Teaching

Station teaching for Juniors, Seniors and 1st Class. Each child has fun and learns at their own level.

Open Day – 24th February

Open Day at Murhur N.S. is the 24th February. We welcome all potential pupils and parents to our Open Day on Monday 24th February from 12-1pm. Our all-inclusive school offers all that is exciting and forward thinking in education.  We constantly introduce new initiatives to enhance the learning experience. Come along and meet our staff, pupils and parents.  If you have a child starting in Junior Infants in the coming years please call in and we will address any questions you may have. After-School Club

After-School Club for Junior and Senior Infants is now up and running! Some very excited infants are delighted at the prospect of staying at school until 3:00pm……..

PE – Gymnastics

St Brigid’s Cross

A big thank you to the children for making St. Brigid’s Crosses and keeping alive the tradition on St. Brigid’s Day 1st February.

 

 

 

 

 

Green School – Water Conservation

Some members of our Green School’s Committee recently attended a fantastic workshop on the theme of ‘Water’.  This was organised by An Taisce. Children were given a talk by a member of Irish Water. Aoife, Abbie, James and Donnacha were actively engaged and brought back lots of tips and ideas on how to conserve water while  working towards achieving our Flag for Water!!

 

 

 

Credit Union Quiz

Credit Union Quiz time is coming up and practice is underway for participants!

STEM is fun!

Juniors/Seniors/1st while studying Antartica learned how to navigate the beebot to different pictures using their north, south, east and west coordinates. The uses of STEM in the classroom are endless!

VEX Robotics

Murhur N.S. has linked up with the Institute of Technology Tralee for an exciting new project. We have been given a Vex Robotics kit which the pupils in 4th class will now build, program and prepare for competition. The children will spend the next few months using their many talents to create the best possible robot! The competition will take place in the ITT in March.

Carol Singing

A very enjoyable Christmas Carol Service was held at the church on Friday 20th December. The children, guided by their teachers performed splendidly!

Donations on the day to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust amounted to €1093.85.

A huge thank you to all who attended the service and for all the generous donations received.  Thank you to Fr. Kevin who added so much to the service as he always does.
