Mrs. Quill and children during our Roots of Empathy programme. The children learned all about the needs of a baby and explored all the different emotions a baby may be feeling. She ended the session with a story called Mother’s Lap and the children were completely captivated! They are all very excited to welcome our Mom and Baby for the next session!
Children all dressed up in their Christmas jumpers in anticipation of The Toy Show. They were busy helping teacher to bake some cookies and make some delicious hot chocolate! Maybe we have some future chefs here!
This year Murhur N.S. will be working towards achieving our first Amber Flag. This initiative promotes creating a healthy and inclusive environment that supports mental well-being. ‘Feel Good Friday’ started the day with a sequence of yoga moves lead by the Amber Flag Committee which is made up of children from 1st to 6th class. They have been working behind the scenes preparing lots of ideas that will be rolled out throughout the school.
What a week we had at Murhur NS. There was a wide range of activities from Beebots to Bird Watching! There were lots of experiments carried out at school while the 5th and 6th Class visited Ardfert Quarry. A busy week for all.
Míle Buíochas to all our school community for their generosity in supporting Brú Columbanus. There was a great selection of costumes to be seen on the day. Total proceeds was €227.
Children receiving their Award at Assembly, cheered on by all their classmates! It was a very busy and productive time in class. We are all looking forward to Halloween break now!
Things got magical in the Junior Room on Friday when the children brewed a magic potion! Look what greeted them on Monday morning!! Wow, our new Superhero pumpkin, Jupiter!
The Junior Infants enjoyed counting activities this week in their new tuff tray while the Senior Infants were exploring the story of 6. 1st Class read about cheetahs and the distance a cheetah can travel in one second – 30m. Some children created pictograms displaying eye colour and of the different hobbies of their friends. 5th and 6th Class played multiplication Bingo. Another busy day filled with Maths made fun!
CCRO of Listowel Rugby Club Patricia Scanlon will visit our school for a 6 week block. The aim is to introduce the children to rugby and new ball skills while getting fit and most importantly ‘having fun’.
Well done to the boys who took part in Cumann na mBunscol in Ballylongford recently. They put in a valiant effort against strong Asdee and Ballylongford teams. We had a young team on the day and they will no doubt be very promising in the years to come. Congratulations to Asdee who were the overall winners. A big thank you to Neilus Mulvihill who helped prepare our team and accompanied Ms. Finnegan to the competition.
We are learning Lámh here in Murhur N.S. Lámh is a manual sign system used by children and adults with intellectual disability and communication needs in Ireland. We are excited to let you know that there is a new Lámh T.V. Series called ‘Dizzy Deliveries’ on RTE jr starting on 19th October. It is on weekdays at 9:50am, 12:10pm and 4:30pm, Don’t miss it!
We had a fantastic Drumming Workshop at school recently. The children and staff loved it! Martin Schaerer taught them all about the different drums and different rhythms. A huge ‘Thank You’ to our Parents’ Association who organised and covered the cost of this wonderful surprise for all the children.
A big thank you to some of our Middle Room pupils who helped in the Junior Room with coding on Scratch Jr. They were very patient and kind when helping the younger children. They all had great fun programming!
Children made the most of the beautiful weather and went for a stroll in the woods looking for signs of autumn. They discovered lots of hidden treasures!
